Dainty Miss Leitzel

At four feet nine inches tall and 95 pounds, she truly was dainty. But great things come in small packages. In the 1920s, Lillian Leitzel of Breslau, Germany, was a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey headliner known as the Queen of the Air and, as proclaimed in this poster, the "World's Most Marvelous Lady Gymnast." Leitzel originated a feat called the one-arm plange, or swingover, in which she'd perform a nearly vertical rotation while hanging by only one arm. She'd do dozens at a time as the audience kept count. Nothing dainty about that or this poster reproduction. Measures 25 x 37 inches. Printed in full color on thick poster stock.
